Creative Coding Education

The Creative Coding Incursion is an exciting way to learn to how to code within the context of the visual arts. The incursion is delivered using Processing, a flexible software sketchbook and a language for learning how to code within the context of the visual arts.

Free, Open-source Coding Language

Students are introduced to coding using Processing, a free, open-source coding language for visual art developed by Ben Fry and Casey Reas, former classmates at the MIT Media Lab

Students Learn The Foundations of Computing

Students take the first steps towards understanding the foundations of computing, writing their own code, and creating their own media without the bonds of existing software tools.

Real-world Coding

One step students learn the core concepts of coding by writing real code. They learn how to sketch with code, creating a program with a few lines of code, observing the result, and then adding to it.

Program Interactive Graphics in 2D and 3D

Students learn how to use the Processing programming language and environment to code interactive graphics in 2D and 3D.

Quickly Learn Programming Basics

Students quickly learn the programming basics, from variables to objects, while also learning the fundamentals of computer graphics.

Progress to Higher Level Concepts

Students can progress to more sophisticated programming, including video, sound, data visualisation, and networking.

The Art of Coding

Learning how to code within the context of the visual arts promotes software literacy within the visual arts and visual literacy within technology.

Creative Coding Incursion

Students learn to code a swarm of drones, have them fly over mission pads, and perform flips and other acrobatic movements. Students have fun, learn programming skills and develop trust in their individual creativity.
